Benefits of the Project:

Impact on Inmate Families

Incarceration has a significant impact on families, both financially and emotionally. The loss of income can be devastating, especially for families with young children. The Prison Art Gallery can help to mitigate some of the financial hardship by providing a way for inmates to generate income from their creative work. It can also be a source of pride and accomplishment for inmates, and it can help to promote healing and reconciliation within families and communities.

For example, let's say that an inmate is a talented artist. They could sell their paintings through the Prison Art Gallery. The proceeds from the sale of their paintings could be used to help pay for their children's education, put food on the table, or cover other expenses. This would not only help the inmate's family financially, but it would also give the inmate a sense of pride and accomplishment. It would show them that they are still capable of contributing to society, even while they are incarcerated.

ARTWORK IN BACKGROUND: The Barrio Azteca The Barrio Azteca is one of the most violent prison gangs operating within the U.S. Barrio Azteca is a highly structured criminal entity and has an estimated membership of 2,000 persons. Most members of the Barrio Azteca are either Mexican nationals or Mexican-American males. Barrio Azteca is most active in the Southwestern region of the U.S., primarily in federal, state and local correctional facilities in Texas, as well as on the outside in communities located in Southwestern Texas and Southeastern New Mexico. Barrio Azteca's main source of income is derived from the smuggling of heroin, powdered cocaine and marijuana from Mexico into the U.S. for distribution both inside and outside the prison systems. Members of the Barrio Azteca often transport illicit drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border on behalf of DTOs. Barrio Azteca members are also involved in crimes such as alien smuggling, arson, assault, auto theft, burglary, extortion, intimidation, kidnapping, robbery and weapons violations.

Project Proposed by Ex-Gang Members

Conceived by former members of the East Side gang in San Diego, California, and youth in City Heights whose friends and family have been incarcerated, ₮Ⱨ€  ฿Ʉ$ł₦Ɇ₴₷ ₳₹₸ ₲₳LL€₹¥'s goal is provide inmates with the opportunity to monetize their creative work and use the proceeds to help them rebuild their lives after they are released from prison.

The project is still in its early stages, but the founders have a clear vision for how it will work. Inmates will be able to submit their creative work to the gallery, and if it is accepted, they will be paid a commission on any sales. The gallery will also offer workshops and classes to help inmates develop their creative skills.

Once inmates are released from prison, they will be able to continue working with the gallery as ambassadors. They will be able to promote the gallery to other inmates and help them get involved in the program. They will also be able to provide support and encouragement to other inmates who are trying to rebuild their lives.

The founders of the Prison Art Gallery believe that this project has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of inmates and their families. They hope that it will provide inmates with a creative outlet, help them develop marketable skills, and give them a positive path forward after they are released from prison.
